Choosing the QUALITY of your waterbed mattress

We all know that spring and foam mattresses give a relatively short period of supportive life before they begin to sag. A waterbed mattress however can last much longer, cost much less and give better support.

Standard waterbed mattress range:

*made from thinner vinyl than our deluxe range of waterbed mattresses.

*Cut smaller to reduce material cost.

*Made from a lower cost general purpose vinyl.

*Comes with a standard two year guarantee.

*Life expectancy, four years.

Deluxe waterbed mattress range

*£50 More expensive than our standard range of  mattresses.

*Made from thicker vinyl than our standard range.

*Generously cut to fit, ensuring perfect support.

*Made with vinyl specifically developed for waterbed mattresses.

*Comes with a standard five year guarantee.

*Life expectancy, eight years plus.

Cheap adjustable beds only £379

December 15th, 2010

Cheap adjustable beds only £379

We have a huge stock of adjustable beds. Unlike our Serena range of adjustable beds that have many options of size, which material to choose for the adjustable bed Base and headboard.

The Majestic adjustable bed comes in a nice Belgian damask which compliments most bedrooms.

Belgian damask

Belgian damask

Two sizes are available. 2’6” x 6’6” or 3’ x 6’6” If you are only buying one adjustable bed, try to fit the 3’ because individually a 2’6” adjustable bed is very narrow. Two adjustable beds side by side is better but always buy the biggest that you can comfortably fit.

So rather than scrap the adjustable bed bases, we have decided to sell the Majestic adjustable bed cheap. The Majestic is not a cheap adjustable bed because of inferior quality, far from it. It is a cheap adjustable bed purely because we need to clear stock. It was previously on display in our trade showroom in Southsea, Hampshire. It was already a cheap adjustable bed at only £650, now reduced to only £379 excluding VAT (If you suffer from certain medical conditions you may be exempt.) Download our VAT exemption form. (If you suffer from certain medical conditions you may be exempt.) http://www.bed-adjustable.co.uk/vatform.pdf

The price of this cheap adjustable bed includes your choice of either a Reflex Foam mattress or a Pocket Spring mattress. If you wish to spend an additional £50 you can upgrade to our Memory Foam 50 mattress, or our high quality Memory Tech mattress for just £100. That would make the Majestic a high quality, cheap adjustable bed. http://www.bed-adjustable.co.uk/products/cheap-adjustable-beds-for-sale.html

Ex-display & used waterbeds

December 7th, 2010

From time to time we will change the waterbeds in our showroom. We may update our retailers display, or we may take away an unwanted waterbed when a customer is modernising and buying a new waterbed. If the price of a new bed is out of your reach at this time, keep checking our ex-display & used waterbeds list. it is also worth pointing out that you may actually be surprised how low our prices are, visit our build a bed feature.

Profiling and lifting height adjustable bed

December 2nd, 2010

If you require an adjustable bed but you also need it to be height adjustable.

In situations where an adjustable bed is needed and professional carers are employed it will be a requirement for the bed to be height adjustable as well as having head and foot end adjustment.  There are two types of mechanism that will raise the bed but we have discontinued the power lifting mechanism   in favour of  the all in one profiling and lifting mechanism. profiling-and-lifting adjustable bedIn our opinion the profiling and lifting adjustable bed mechanism is far safer to use. The mattress will sit at a lower height as a starting point. It will also be more sturdy having a larger footprint than the power lifter. Because the mechanism sits within the bed frame rather than free standing on the floor it will be easier to move because it will use our normall castors with brakes.

The only downside is that it is more expensive and will increase the cost of the adjustable bed. At the time of writing this, you would need to add £650 to our build a bed feature. Considering all the benefits, the extra cost is worth paying.

If the profiling and lifting mechanism is to be used next to another bed, a risk assessment should carried out by a professional.

What to do if your waterbed mattress begins to smell

November 17th, 2010

What causes a waterbed mattress to smell?

The following advice is based on approximately twenty five years of experience in the waterbed industry, in both the UK and California. Also input from other retailers, The British Waterbed Association and our customer feedback. We are not scientists, so if you are a water bed owner and have beneficial advice or something to add, rather than criticising this advice, please add your feedback.

Over the years a very small percentage of customers have reported a smell from the waterbed mattress. The smell can be described as stale straw. This does not sound too bad, but the smell fills the room and bed clothes. The smell is intolerable and the water bed is no longer usable.

This smell should not be confused with the smell of new vinyl which can be strong for the first few days, but gradually wears off. This is always the case.

A waterbed mattress is made from PVC (Vinyl). The filling to stabilize the movement is polyester fibers. Neither the  vinyl or water bed fiber can produce the smell described above.

The cause of the smell is bacteria in the water. When a waterbed is new, it is filled with water and eight ounces of specially formulated waterbed conditioner are added. This is twice the dose that is required every six months, but will give the water bed mattress a good clean start.

Two causes for the waterbed mattress to start smelling.

First, if the waterbed mattress is several years old and the owner has missed or been late adding the conditioner, then bacteria can start to grow in the water. A waterbed is temperature controlled making it an ideal breading ground for bacteria if conditioner is not added regularly. Also ensure that you take any air from the water bed mattress whenever you hear it as this is annoying and will also encourage bacteria to grow.

AirYou can visit our youtube video to see how to remove air from your waterbed mattress. (This is not a Hollywood production)

Mattress side retaining bars for Adjustable beds

Mattress side retaining bars for Adjustable beds

Sir, I am looking for side retainers for a double adjustable bed, and a Google search provided me with a similar request in September of this year. 2 questions: What is the clipping pitch (our bed would require circa 180mm to clip between 2 slats)? Are the adjustable bed slat retainers shown still available at the price illustrated (£5 each + £6 next day carrier + VAT, Total £30.55)? If the answer to both questions is “yes”, I would like to buy a set. Many Thanks Customer details removed

Hello Customer details removed,

Unfortunately the price is now £6 each but we will keep to the old price for  the adjustable bed mattress side retaining bars. Adjustable Bed side retaining barI have attached a picture to show the pitch of the clips which are approximately 104mm.

Different manufacturers of adjustable beds vary the pitch, but only slightly, so.I suspect you may have measured the pitch of two pairs of slats instead of two individual slats. If this is the case then yes again.

thanks John

In order for us to simplify explanations and guide customers with a frequently asked questions about adjustable beds, would you object to your comments being used on our blog with your name and email etc removed?

Thanks John

Hi John,

Thanks for this. It may be that I have not described my requirement well enough, its not the bars I am after, but the mattress retaining brackets, which screw onto the adjustable bed slats, are L-shaped, and have retaining clips/lugs as part of the bracket - there was a photograph of a white bracket on the adjustable bed blog entry I found.
Looking at my bed, the slats are 2″ wide (seem to be slightly more than 50mm, so I am assuming 2″) with what I would guess is a 3″ gap between the slats themselves, giving a 7″ end to end distance (180mm). The adjustable bed was purchased from Argos a few years ago.
In terms of this thread being on your blog, no problems (with name and address removed).
Many thanks

Sorry for the late reply, but I’m still at work.

Don’t worry, I fully understood, but the adjustable bed you have is not made to the same high quality as our adjustable bed mechanism. A 3″ gap between the slats sounds excessive but, if it does the job! Our adjustable bed mattress side retaining bars can still be used by cutting off the clips and screwing down through the main body of the plastic which will line up perfectly over your slats. Using the screws will make the clips obsolete. We can pre drill and countersink them for you and remove the clips.

Thanks John

Thanks for all of this. Address for package is: Removed

Thanks once again, and best regards
